There are a lot of unknown facts that challenge you when motorbike riding in a foreign country. This is the reason for when we plan your Motorcycling Adventure Tours to visit Romania, we take into consideration all aspects, so you can enjoy the unique experience that Romania has to offer. Be sure, Romania is a country full of surprises and beautiful places.

We summarized here a couple of tips you should know when visiting Romania. How did we do this? We simply have based on the questions were asked when guests came to rent and ride our BMW motorcycles from Bucharest.

Here are a couple of things you might want to know when deciding to adventure yourself in a motorcycle tour. Of course, we are talking about a motorcycle tour in Romania:

Romania is one of the safest countries in the world according to Wikipedia Global Peace Index , so there’s no need to be extra paranoid about leaving a brand new BMW adventure motorcycle rented from Bucharest, in everyone’s sight. It’s enough to leave it in the private parking place at your hotel;

Due to the sheer amount of cars and impatient drivers, traffic in Romania can get tiresome. So, avoid riding in the middle of rush hours, especially when getting across big cities like Bucharest, Brasov, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca;

People. Romanians are famous for their hospitality and friendliness. Inside the big cities, most of people speak a good English. In rural areas, the locals will show your path with a lot of goodwill and some smiles.

In case you have a medical emergencies, you can choose the private healthcare in Romania. The private network is easily accessible and medical staff are very well trained. However, this is especially true in big cities like Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca;

There is more uniqueness in Romania than you might guess it could be. Start by visiting the happiest cemetery on Earth called “The Merry Cemetery” in the northern part of the country or try to keep track of Romanian inventors that have played an important role as pioneers in aerodynamics and aviation. Also, you can ride across some of Europe’s virgin lands, the single place where wild bears, wolves and even horses still live by the law of nature (discover more here).

And if you’re here for the view, be prepared for stunning sights because diverse is most often the description used for Romania’s natural landscapes. Virgin forests, mountain trails or quiet beaches, they are here for you to enjoy.

By what other way can you get to know Romania, other than living like a Romanian yourself? So, go visit a small traditional village, meet locals, and experience the authentic Romanian life. Romanians are famous for being very welcoming, they will immediately integrate you in their family and their day to day activities.

One Trip. Two Wheels. Countless Experiences.

Romania is still an unknown destination for most travelers so, besides visiting the most famous places like Dracula Castle, Sighisoara Fortress, Transfagarasan mountain road, painted monasteries from Bucovina, there are a lot of unique experiences you can have here. Rent a motorcycle in Romania and enjoy!

By what other way can you get to know Romania, other than living like a Romanian yourself? So, rent a motorcycle from us and go visit a small traditional village, meet locals, and experience the authentic Romanian life. Romanians are famous for being very welcoming, they will immediately integrate you in their family and their day to day activities. You can visit sheepfolds, participate in farming activities and share with people the happiness of being close to the nature. Be careful to the bears in The Carpathian Mountains and the last remaining feral horses living at large on the European continent, galloping around Letea Forest in The Danube Delta.

Authentic Romanians like to cook a lot and share their traditional food together with a homemade wine with you. Among traditional foods you will be acquainted with the taste of sarmale, ciorba, papanasi, all served in a welcoming atmosphere.

Most of the organic food from Romania is still very cheap. You can find tasty organically-farmed fruits and vegetables in special markets in all cities.

The atmosphere changes on Sunday when all villagers get dressed in their best clothes and gather in the church. Sometimes they wear traditional clothes.

Most Romanians live in the middle of the nature and they are counting on what nature has to offer. Because of this, Romania is one of the few countries in Europe that managed to preserve wilderness. It has 40% of the wild bears population in the Europe and has an impressive number of other wild animals. Unfortunately other countries in Europe as Switzerland for example, lost some of the species as wild bears and wolves. If you want to see bears as close as possible to their wild habitat, visit the bear sanctuary from Brasov.

Take your tent on your motorcycle because you can camp almost anywhere, as long as you protect the nature. If you don’t like to camp alone, place your tent among other mountain lovers somewhere in an organized camping.

Don’t forget to include in your trip driving the motorcycle along best mountain roads you ever seen. Transfagarasan, Transalpina, Transbucegi and Transrarau because certainly these are spectacular mountain roads in Balkans area. Also spending a night in the city center of Bucharest can be a true getaway.

Choose a tour or simply rent a motorcycle in Romania from us and enjoy!

Meet Transfagarasan mountain road, ideal motorcycle route in Romania, one of the most spectacular roads out there. You will only understand why Jeremy Clarkson claimed it was the greatest driving road in the world when experiencing it yourself. Check out his driving frenzy on Transfagarasan here

Now imagine how this would feel with a motorcycle!

How much do you actually know about Transfagarasan?

This 90 km road starts from Bascov, near Pitesti and it is 122 km away from Bucharest. The road follows the Arges river valley and after mounting to the highest point, it descends to Cartisoara in the Olt river valley, where the road ends.

This amazing road reaches its highest altitude at 2.134 meters and until there, it has sharp hairpin turns, which can be a real challenge for every biker. The road has more tunnels and viaducts than any other road in Romania. On the highest point of Transfagarasan, near Balea Lake you can find the longest and highest tunnel in Romania. The tunnel has 900 meters long.

Be careful, Transfagarasan is closed between end of October, until June, because of the harsh weather conditions in winter. Sometimes, it is possible to find Transfagarasan open until late November. Don’t forget to check the weather conditions before planning your motorcycle trip.

Construction by Romanian military forces to Transfagarasan road started in 1970 and lasted until 1974. After the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, Nicolae Ceausescu built this road as a strategic military route to cross the mountains in case the Soviets attempted to expand their invasion across Romania. The builders used 6.000 tons of dynamite to clear a path for the road on the Northern side of the mountains. The Northern side is the most spectacular part of the Transfagarasan. Not less than 40 soldiers lost their lives during construction.

Don’t forget that Transfagarasan in not the only road that you can count on for delivering some pretty awe-inspiring views. Romania also prepared other roads “specially made for motorcycles” like: Transalpina, Transrarau, Transbucegi or Cheile Bicazului. We’ve seen them all and we cannot stop asking ourselves whether they were all built especially for bikers.

Transfagarasan road is an amazing and unforgettable riding experience for any biker, so be prepared to be stunned!

All our tours are shared with you after 14 years of riding the motorcycle in Romania. When we’ve created those trips, we’ve used this experience and took into account some of the specific elements of the traffic in this country. For example:

starting from Bucharest, because in Bucharest is the main Romanian airport, Henri Coanda

road conditions

weather conditions
